Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the interpersonal value systems of nursing student at a junior college of nursing located in Seoul through SIV(Survey of Interpersonal Values) developed by Hwang and Lee, from October 7 to Nobember 2,
1994.
The samples were 466 students; 151 of freshmen, 154 of sophomore, and 151 of junior.
@ES The results of the study were as follows:
@EN 1. The nursing students surveyed had the highest score for denevolence (62.0%ile), and the lowest for recognition (43.8%ile).
2. A significant variation between grades was found only for support(p<.01) and conformity(p<.001).
3. A significant variation between day classes and evening classes was found only for conformity(p<.05).
4. A significant variation between experienced group of clinical practice(sophomore and junior) and non-experienced group(freshmen) was found only for support(p<.01), and conformity(p<.001).
5. There was no significant variation between those who choose teacher's courses and those who didn't choose teacher's courses among sophomore and junior students, for SIV.
But a significant variation was found between those who choose teacher's courses and those who didn't choose teacher's courses involving those who didn't choose teacher's courses of freshmen for support(p<.01), conformity (p<.05).
6. The analysis of the between general characteristics showed no significance by growth-place, the experience of more-than-two-challenge for the college entrance examination.
But a significant variation was found by religion, reason for choice of nursing major, problems confronted, and counselling partner.
The analysis of the variation between family characteristics showed no significance by the level of livng, parentral status, the educational background of father, the job of parents, the number of siblings, the ranking among the siblings, the
affection
between siblings, the atmospheres of family, but a significance by the educational background of mother, the expectation of parents, and the attitudes of nurturing of parents(p<05).
The results of the study showed the level of values of the whole students surveyed, and the significant variation by the grades, classes, clinical experiences, those who choose teacher's courses for their values.
The level of the tendancy of values was average, but lower for leadership and recognition in reported researches. Therefore, it is concluded that to promote values, a systematic strategy of educational program should be established for the right
value
construction for nursing college students.
